Institute Presentation


FARES comes from the „Oeuvre Nationale Belge contre la Tuberculose“ (Belgian National Work Against Tuberculosis). It is divided into two services : Respiratory Diseases and Tobacco Prevention.

The first coordinates fight against tuberculosis. It is also implied into asthma and COPD. Its activities cover all Belgian French Community area.

The Tobacco Prevention Service  is a reference and experts centre about tobacco. Its main activities are :
- form new tabacologs
- provide information by the specialized documentation centre
- coordinate the „Help Smoker Centres“ (Centres d’Aide aux Fumeurs = CAF) and provide
  advice in tobacco cessation
- take part  and/or organize sensibilization campaigns aiming smoking prevention
- insure tobacco cessation management help in various lifeplaces (pregnant women and
  companions, sport and tobacco, health promotion program (youth and tobacco):  the aim
  of the program is to allow to 1st line professionnals having a framing mission with youth to
  develop interventions in smoking cessation within a more general drug prevention frame and
  a health promotion process, chicha and narguileh, others).
