The Danish Cancer Society has about 450 employees working with cancer prevention, cancer research and cancer rehabilitation. The institution is currently funding 50% of all cancer research in Denmark. The Prevention and Documentation department has 45 employees working with cancer prevention and documentation in general, and three project groups work with tobacco related cancer prevention.
The project group ‘Children, Adolescence and Smoking’ has seven fulltime employees working solely with prevention of smoking uptake and adolescent smoking cessation. We have developed several adolescent smoking cessation interventions in the last decade, and have experience with both ‘traditional’ smoking cessation courses, cessation competitions on the internet, short counselling, and electronic smoking cessation via internet/ SMS and Email. Currently we are in the process of publishing evaluations of three different smoking cessation interventions.
With regard to international experience we participated in the European Smoking prevention Framework Approach (ESFA) project, and the Adolescent Smoking Cessation (ASC) project both funded by the EU.
